In one of the most unusual Beethoven cycles in recording history, Czech-born Swiss conductor Rafael Kubelík interpreted the nine symphonies with nine different orchestras, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Israel Philharmonic, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra – a sign of the international reputation of a conductor who pursued his worldwide career while retaining strong links with his Czech homeland. Here, in a performance with the Royal Concergebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam, experience Beethoven's invigorating Second Symphony and the Leonore Overture No. 3, in which the entire drama of the opera Fidelio is condensed.
