Yuja Wang plays Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2

Munich Philharmonic

Performance date: 01/12/2018
51 Min

Filmed at Suntory Hall in Tokyo in 2018, Yuja Wang performs one of the grandest concertos in the piano repertory: Brahms's mighty Piano Concerto No. 2, composed between 1878 and 1881. "I want to tell you that I have written a very small piano concerto", the composer wrote to an acquaintance on completing the work, "with a very small and pretty scherzo". In fact, the concerto lasts nearly 50 minutes and spans four expansive movements, giving it the dimensions and scope of a symphony, while the piano writing calls for power, delicacy and expansive lyricism by turns.
