The Verbier Festival’s iconic "Rencontres Inédites" series brings together leading musicians to perform chamber music. In this "unprecedented encounter", live from the Festival’s 30th edition, an all-star line-up present Elgar’s Piano Quintet in A minor: DG artist Renaud Capuçon, fellow violinist Alexandra Conunova, viola player Lawrence Power, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and pianist Alexandre Kantorow. The most substantial of Elgar’s chamber works, the Quintet was completed in early 1919, in a world still overshadowed by war. The sublime, elegiac Adagio at its heart is framed by an enigmatic, unsettling opening movement and a finale that brings the work to an end in a burst of light.
- Soloists:
- Renaud Capuçon (Violin), Alexandra Conunova (Violin), Sheku Kanneh-Mason (Cello), Alexandre Kantorow (Piano), Lawrence Power (Viola)
