AboutPatricia Petibon

Trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique with Rachel Yakar and discovered by William Christie, Patricia Petibon has established herself as one of the most versatile singers in her field with a repertoire spanning from French Baroque to contemporary music. Since her debut in 1996 at the Opéra de Paris in Rameau's HIPPOLYTE ET ARICIE, she has explored music history, from Mozart to Offenbach, via Donizetti and Verdi, to Poulenc and Berg, on the world's major stages. The artist remains true to the Baroque, as shown by performances of Rameau's LES INDES GALANTES/Phani & Zima with William Christie at the Paris Opéra and ARIODANTE/Dalinda under the musical direction of Marc Minkowski, the reopening of the Théâtre du Châtelet with Gluck's ORPHÉE ET EURYDICE under John Eliot Gardiner, as well as ARIODANTE/Ginevra at the Grand Théâtre de Genève and ALCINA/Morgana at La Scala in Milan. The artist achieved particular success as Giunia/LUCIO SILLA at the Theater an der Wien under Nikolaus Harnoncourt, with whom she collaborated repeatedly. Recent highlights include Despina/COSÌ FAN TUTTE at the Salzburg Festival and her role debut as Lulu in Geneva, at the Salzburg Festival, and at the Liceu in Barcelona (also released on DVD by DGG). Patricia Petibon also appeared in MITRIDATE in Vienna and Munich. In her role debut as Donna Anna/DON GIOVANNI, she enjoyed great success at the Opéra Bastille in Paris. Most recently, she was acclaimed for her Susanna/LE NOZZE DI FIGARO at the Festival in Aix-en-Provence and for her role debut as Gilda in a new production of RIGOLETTO in Munich. In 2013, she appeared as Giunia/LUCIO SILLA in Barcelona and celebrated a great personal triumph as Blanche in a new production of LES DIALOGUES DES CARMÉLITES at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris – as she had previously in Vienna. The premiere of Philippe Boesmans' AU MONDE was also a success. In the summer of 2014, she again appeared as Ginevra in Handel's ARIODANTE at the Festival of Aix-en-Provence. Patricia Petibon has many musical connections with Alain Altinoglu and the RSO Wien, Ivor Bolton and the Munich Chamber Orchestra, Michael Gielen and the Staatskapelle Berlin, Daniel Harding and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Kristjan Järvi and the Munich Philharmonic as well as the MDR Symphony Orchestra, Andrea Marcon and the DR SymfoniOrkestret, Josep Pons and the Orchestra National de Lyon, Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques, Jérémie Rhorer and the Cercle de l’Harmonie, Paavo Järvi and the Orchestre de Paris, as well as with La Cetra, the Venice Baroque Orchestra, Il Giardino Armonico, the Freiburger Barock Orchester, and many others. Patricia Petibon feels equally at home on the Lied stage, regularly performing in Paris, at the Wiener Musikverein and Konzerthaus, at the Salzburg Festival, in Graz, Geneva, Aix-en-Provence, Luxembourg, Barcelona, Madrid, and Bilbao. In 2014, she performed in Lille, Amsterdam, and Valencia. In September 2014, her new recording "La Belle Excentrique" was released, accompanied by a series of concerts with the same program in Quimper, Montargis, Rennes, Nice, Arras, Aarhus, Copenhagen, Innsbruck, Geneva, Luxembourg, and at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. The 2014/15 season kicked off with an acclaimed return to the Vienna State Opera, where she appeared in Massenet's MANON. The season also features performances of Ravel's SHÉHÉRAZADE under Bertrand de Billy in Dresden and Poulenc's STABAT MATER under Alain Altinoglou at the Wiener Musikverein. The revival of AU MONDE will take place at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, and a new production of Berlioz' BENVENUTO CELLINI will bring Patricia Petibon to the Nederlandse Opéra in Amsterdam. The artist's discography now includes titles such as "Les Fantaisies De Patricia Petibon" with a diverse exploration of her repertoire, "French Touch" with French arias, a solo album with French Baroque arias, ORLANDO PALADINO with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, and LA PASSIONE DI GESÙ with Fabio Biondi. She has also participated in recordings of Handel duets with Emmanuelle Haïm, WERTHER, and DIE ENTFÜHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL. Since the beginning of the 2007/08 season, Patricia Petibon has had an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon. The release of her first album with arias by Gluck, Mozart, and Haydn with Concerto Köln and Daniel Harding at the end of October 2008 was met with great success by audiences and critics. On her recording "Rosso," released in 2010, Patricia Petibon recorded Italian Baroque arias. In 2011, her album "Melancolia" with Spanish repertoire, recorded with the Orquesta Nacional de España under Josep Pons, was released. In 2012, her solo album titled "Nouveau Monde" with Baroque arias and songs, recorded with La Cetra and Andrea Marcon, was released, and in 2013, Poulenc's STABAT MATER and GLORIA with the Orchestre de Paris under Paavo Järvi appeared. 2014/15
