György Kurtág Jr., son of the renowned Hungarian composer, has long been dedicated to developing his own style of electronic music. In an unusual project, fellow composer László Hortobágyi incorporates Kurtág motifs into his own compositions to pay tribute to a long-standing connection. The ensemble describes this work as "Hortobágyi's album about Kurtág" and, at the same time, as "an invitation to explore a new musical dimension." This remarkable addition enriches ECM's growing collection of electronic music for discerning listeners with pulsating, synthetic soundscapes, almost imperceptible bass lines, sonically nuanced collages, and sudden sonic eruptions.
