With "Dances and Canons," composer Kate Moore and pianist Saskia Lankhoorn release their first joint album on ECM Records. Moore, born in England in 1979 and now living in the Netherlands, clearly reveals the influence of Australian nature sounds in her work. Lankhoorn, also born in 1979 and from the Netherlands, engages deeply with Moore's compositions. The two musicians have collaborated regularly since 2003, with a repertoire that includes solo pieces as well as works for two, four, or more pianos. The recordings took place at the Auditorio Svizzera in Lugano, under the direction of producer Manfred Eicher. George Miller notes in the liner notes that it is impossible to listen to this music without marveling at the extraordinary technical challenges it presents for the performer.
