The acclaimed violinist has recorded Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35. This recording was released in 2010 on the Deutsche Grammophon label with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Vasily Petrenko. Composed in 1878, this masterpiece comprises three movements: Allegro moderato in D major, Canzonetta Andante in G minor, and the finale, Allegro vivacissimo, in D major. Tchaikovsky wrote this work in Clarens, near Geneva, following an unhappy marriage and a suicide attempt. He sketched the concerto in just eleven days and orchestrated it within two weeks, recomposing the slow movement after the original was deemed weak. This work, once considered unplayable, is now part of the standard repertoire of great violin virtuosos and continues to draw concertgoers worldwide.
