Carl Nielsen – Between Heaven and Earth
Director Magdalena Zięba-Schwind sets out to present a psychological portrait of the life of Danish composer Carl Nielsen in the context of the turbulent times he lived through – covering the turn of the 20th century and the World War I. In so doing she poses a fundamental question: who was this son of a provincial house painter whose workers' and children's songs are as popular as ever today? Shot on location in in Fyn and Copenhagen, the film features contributions from artists including Fabio Luisi, Herbert Blomstedt and members of the Danish String Quartet.
