The Munich Klaviersommer is a festival that defies genres – throwing together the most original classical and jazz performers on the planet and letting them catch fire. The combination of saxophonist Wayne Shorter and the Latin-jazz guitar phenomenon Carlos Santana was always likely to be combustible, and so it proved on this hot night in Munich in the summer of '88: with Shorter and Santana inspiring each other to new heights, and throwing sparks into a world-class band that includes such names as Patrice Rushen on keyboards and Ndugu Chancler on drums. The results burn even brighter than you'd imagine.
