To listen to Chopin’s 24 Preludes is like leafing through the secret diary of Romanticism; in the words of Liszt, these extraordinary miniatures are "compositions of an order entirely apart ... analogous to those of a great poet, who cradles the soul in golden dreams". For András Schiff, a pianist famed for engaging both head and heart, they open entire worlds of the imagination. In this complete cycle, performed live at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d'Art Dramatique in Chopin’s beloved Paris, Schiff takes his identification with the composer a step further: playing on a restored 1860 Pleyel piano similar to those that Chopin himself would have known.
