Evgeny Kissin presents a striking recital programme at the 2021 Salzburg Festival, its first half juxtaposing Alban Berg's groundbreaking Piano Sonata with George Gershwin's Three Preludes of 1926 and rarely heard music by Soviet composer Tikhon Khrennikov. The second part of the recital, meanwhile, presents a selection of works by Chopin, culminating in the fireworks of the Scherzo in B Minor and the "Heroic" Polonaise. For the encores, Kissin performs his net yet wider to include his own Dodecaphonic Tango alongside Mendelssohn, more Chopin and Debussy's ever-popular Clair de lune.
