Karajan conducts Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2

Bulgarian virtuoso Alexis Weissenberg is the soloist in this performance of one of the best-known piano concertos in the repertory: Rachmaninoff's sweepingly melodic and quintessentially Romantic Piano Concerto No.2. He joins Herbert von Karajan and the Berliner Philiharmoniker – filmed at their home in the Philharmonie in Berlin – in an account rare for its integration of soloist and orchestra and for the symphonic coherence of the conductor's vision. Karajan himself was the video director, and his innovative approach to capturing the performance on film is matched by music making of the highest calibre.
