Celebrating the Artistry of Thomas Ford and James Bowman at STAGE+
Renowned for his fascinating masterpieces, Thomas Ford is an artist acclaimed for his unique style and passionate approach to his craft. Ford, who lived from 1580 to 1648, was an English composer, lutenist, viol player, and poet. He served as a musician to Prince Henry from 1610/1611 to 1612, to Prince Charles from 1617 to 1625, and then to King Charles I from 1626 up until the outbreak of the Civil War in 1642. Ford's works are renowned for their expressive lute songs and significant contribution to early Baroque English music.
Fascinating works by Thomas Ford | STAGE+
Our new exhibit, "Fascinating works by Thomas Ford | STAGE+" showcases a handpicked selection of his mesmerizing pieces. Each one tells a story — they resonate with Ford's individuality, immersing the viewer in a world of creative exploration and profound thought.
The James Bowman Collection
We are also proud to introduce "The James Bowman Collection". This collection beautifully curates the works of James Bowman, widely regarded as one of the greatest countertenors of the twentieth century. While it's important to clarify that there is no evidence that Ford’s compositions are specifically featured in "The James Bowman Collection", Ford’s works are often included in collections with Dowland, and the collection is a testament to Bowman's legacy.
Awake, Sweet Love and Time Stands Still
The exhibit continues with "Time Stands Still: Lute Songs by Dowland and His Contemporaries", a musical break from the visual. This piece, featuring the classic touch of James Bowman, David Miller, The King's Consort, Emma Kirkby, and Anthony Rooley, is truly a treat to the senses; it magically intertwines the worlds of art and music. However, it's crucial to note that "Awake, Sweet Love" is a composition by John Dowland, not Thomas Ford.
