Recently discovered by researchers at the International Mozarteum Foundation in Salzburg, the Serenade in C Major, KV 648, also known as the "Very Little Night Music," unveils a hidden gem from the composer's repertoire. Unearthed from the Carl Ferdinand Becker collection at the Leipzig Municipal Library while working on an updated Köchel catalog, a pivotal piece chronicling Mozart's musical creations, this composition features seven miniature movements for a trio of strings. Written during Mozart's early adolescence, likely between the mid to late 1760s, the piece was unveiled to the public on September 19, 2024, during a performance led by Dr. Ulrich Leisinger, exploring and preserving Mozart's cultural heritage under the International Mozarteum foundation. The authentic rendition of the Serenade in C KV 648 was brought to fruition by a distinguished ensemble comprising young but esteemed violinists, Leonhard Baumgartner and Margarita Pochebut, alongside Svenja Dose on double bass and Oscar Jockel on harpsichord, in the Viennese Hall of the International Mozarteum Foundation. Opting for a collaboration between double bass and harpsichord within the continuo section, the musicians' interpretation stayed true to the essence of Mozart's original vision. This endeavor was made possible with the kind support of the Stretton Society.
