Album insights
Australian multi-talent Nick Cave, famously known as the frontman of The Bad Seeds, reveals his poetic side in collaboration with Belgian composer Nicholas Lens. Coming together during the lockdown, their latest venture, L.I.T.A.N.I.E.S, features Cave crafting twelve "supplications to a divine creator," which Lens ingeniously weaves into a piece born "from nocturnal dreams." While Lens cycled through a desolate Brussels, he was transported to the serene magic of Rinzai Zen temples in rural Japan, recalling the tranquility he had experienced there. These recollections sparked the creation of the minimalist, almost trance-like music of L.I.T.A.N.I.E.S, performed by Denzil Delaere, N. L. Noorenbergh, Claron McFadden, and Lens' daughter Clare-Lane, an artist in her own right. Despite the individual recording process at Lens' residence to comply with pandemic guidelines, the unity and purpose behind their collective efforts shine through in this remarkable vocal masterpiece of eleven instrumentalists.
