What is World Opera Day—and why do we celebrate it?

World Opera Day on October 25 highlights opera’s social relevance and invites you to rediscover its diversity: education, support for young talent, community projects, and above all the art form itself—in all its breadth, from repertoire staples to world premieres.

Watch opera online: Livestreams & premieres on STAGE+

For World Opera Day, STAGE+ showcases outstanding opera livestreams—led by the world premiere stream of Grounded from the Metropolitan Opera, starring Emily D’Angelo and composed by Jeanine Tesori. With its contemporary lens, the work powerfully shows how vividly opera speaks today.

Following this World Opera Day premiere, and as part of our partnership with the Metropolitan Opera, four additional premiere streams will be released monthly through the end of February. Look forward to works from Verdi to Puccini.
