Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique, H. 48: V. Songe d'une nuit de sabbat

Conductor Nicolò Umberto Foron and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester release their album featuring Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique and Lili Boulanger’s D’un soir triste. Foron comments on the repertoire: “While both composers were in their 20s when composing these pieces, they showcase a distinct maturity of form and feeling. In my interpretation, I sought to emphasize their shared intensity: Berlioz’s fever journey and hallucination, and Boulanger’s luminous, restrained contemplation of the end. This recording may therefore be heard as a dialogue across a century between two young composers grappling with what inspiration means to them personally, under very different historical and emotional circumstances.”
