Kissin, Argerich, Maisky & Friends: Shostakovich Chamber Music

Evgeny Kissin is the presiding spirit for this concert from Verbier, which marked the 50th anniversary of Shostakovich's death with music that shows him at his most intimate, personal and profound. And the line-up is unbeatable, with Kissin joined by Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, Antoine Tamestit and the superb Quatuor Ébène for four major works: the Cello Sonata, the Piano Quintet, the Concertino for Two Pianos and, to bring the concert to a moving close, the Viola Sonata – the composer's final work, in whose last movement he presented a thinly-veiled summary of his life's work before coming to a "radiant" conclusion in C major.
