By the summer of 1989, when they played this now-legendary concert at the Munich Klaviersommer, the Jacques Loussier Trio had been playing its jazz interpretations of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach for three decades. But you wouldn't guess it from the freshness and the sheer joie de vivre that animates these performances of the Italian Concerto, the Fifth Brandenburg Concerto and several shorter Bach works. Loussier's second-generation line-up of Vincent Charbonnier (bass) and André Arpino (drums) had found its groove: faster, brighter and more unbuttoned than many of the Trio's studio recordings, these are live performances to cherish.
