Stan Getz (1927–1991) needs no introduction to jazz lovers: the tenor sax virtuoso who worked unforgettably with Dizzy Gillespie and Oscar Peterson, and whose mellow, bittersweet, utterly individual tone won him the nickname "The Sound". In the summer of 1990, just months before his death, he came to Munich with a suitably star-studded sextet that included the legendary sideman Kenny Barron on piano and Terri Lyne Carrington on drums. His set ranges gloriously across the whole Great American Songbook, as well as Getz's own extensive back-catalogue: an unforgettable swansong from one of the jazz saxophone's all-time greats.
