Burkard Schliessmann’s 1993 recital at Munich’s Philharmonie im Gasteig moves from Bach to late Romantic and early modern intensity. Busoni’s piano transcription of the Chaconne from Bach’s D minor Partita forms a grave and architectural opening. Scriabin’s Third Sonata follows in four movements, its volatile contrasts sharpened by three Preludes from Op. 74, poised between fragility and defiance. Chopin’s Fourth Ballade closes the programme, its long narrative line and intricate counterpoint demanding both structural control and tonal depth.
