Wynton Marsalis brings In This House, On This Morning to Munich’s Philharmonie im Gasteig in 1992, presenting his extended composition as a jazz service shaped by the liturgy of the Black church. Structured in movements from “Call to Prayer” and “Processional” to “Benediction” and “Pot Blessed Dinner”, the work blends written passages with improvisation, collective response and solo testimony. With Wycliffe Gordon, Eric Reed, Wessel Anderson, Todd Williams, Reginald Veal and Herlin Riley, Marsalis draws on gospel cadence, blues inflection and New Orleans swing, allowing the music to move between devotion, reflection and exuberant release.
