Gardiner conducts Bach: Mass in B minor from Versailles
Monteverdi Choir
Production Date: 08/04/2023

For his late Mass in B minor, Bach brought together music composed over many decades of his life to create one of the pillars of the choral repertoire. Similarly, John Eliot Gardiner's history of performing the work stretches back several decades – his first classic recording made with the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists dates from 1985 – and the conductor brings unparalleled experience to his performances today with the same forces. This concert, filmed at the Chapelle Royale in Versailles as part of the group's spring 2023 tour, showcases their skill, virtuosity and passion in repertoire they and their conductor have made their own.
