The year 2024 sees the Spring Festival in Tokyo – Japan’s largest classical music festival – celebrate its 20th anniversary. A central pillar of the programme this year is a complete cycle of Beethoven’s piano sonatas performed by one of its most eminent exponents: Austrian pianist Rudolf Buchbinder. For this, the second of two concerts broadcast live on STAGE+, he performs the remarkable final three sonatas, including some of Beethoven’s most personal, moving and sometimes experimental music – a towering final trilogy of works to which Buchbinder brings a lifetime’s experience.
