Filmed at the Philharmonie de Paris and combining superb music-making with beautiful scenography, this innovative Schubertiade features one of the composer’s foremost interpreters – Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires – alongside friends and younger colleagues. Pires takes centre stage in performances of the four-hand "Lebensstürme" and the sparkling "Trout" Quintet, as well as presenting a favourite impromptu and accompanying young baritone Thomas Humphreys in some of the composer’s best-loved songs. The Armenian pianist Lilit Grigoryan performs the Moments musicaux D. 780 while singer Selma Uamusse provides a refreshing interlude with song and improvisation.
