Giovanni Antonio Rigatti, a prominent Italian composer and choirmaster of the early Baroque era, has left an indelible mark on the world of sacred music. Born in Venice, Rigatti received his foundational musical training as a boy chorister under Claudio Monteverdi at St. Mark's Basilica, a prestigious appointment that shaped his musical language and career trajectory. Rigatti held several key posts throughout his career, including kapellmeister at Udine Cathedral from September 1635 to March 1637, organist and choir master at the Ospedale dei Mendicanti in Venice, and, by about 1646, maestro di cappella to the Patriarch of Venice. Rigatti also trained to become a priest and was active as a teacher, notably at the Ospedale dei Incurabili. However, his teaching without the required permission led to his dismissal. He died in Venice on October 24 or 25, in either 1648 or 1649.

Rigatti was especially esteemed for his sacred music, with publication records showing nine volumes in this genre: five of solo and concertato motets, and four of psalms, which include three Masses. He also produced two volumes of secular works—monodies and concertato madrigals.
