Daniel Barenboim
With his new recording of Elgar's First Symphony, Daniel Barenboim continues his exploration of the English composer's work. The recording with the Staatskapelle Berlin was made during live concerts at the Berlin Philharmonie in September 2015. Barenboim, whose affinity for England's greatest composer has long been known, returns to one of Elgar's early symphonic masterpieces. The Staatskapelle Berlin displays remarkable sound quality in this interpretation, particularly in the gentle woodwind and horn passages. The recording is characterized by a driving dynamic in the first movement, while the Adagio is interpreted with particular tenderness.
