Yannick Nézet-Séguin

On September 19, the internationally acclaimed Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin will not only open the 2013/14 concert season at the Dortmund Concert Hall, but also begin his three-year residency there. With the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, of which Nézet-Séguin is chief conductor, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, the "Pathétique," will be performed. The season opening under his direction represents a significant cultural moment. The Dortmund Concert Hall is collaborating with Nézet-Séguin, who is intended to serve as an ambassador for classical music, reaching younger audiences. To coincide with his opening concerts, Deutsche Grammophon will release two programs: the "Pathétique" for Dortmund and a "Homage to Leopold Stokowski" for Philadelphia. In both releases, the conductor shares his personal connection to the works as well as his interpretive approaches.
