Album insights

Anna Netrebko, the renowned opera star of our time, has returned with her first solo album in five years titled "Amata dalle tenebre." Celebrating her 50th birthday, the Primadonna assoluta showcases a brilliant array of iconic soprano arias by Verdi, Wagner, Strauss, Puccini, Cilea, and Purcell. This album also features Dido's Lament, Netrebko's debut Baroque piece in English. Recorded at the prestigious Auditorium of the Milan Scala with the Scala Orchestra led by Maestro Riccardo Chailly. The BluRay edition pairs the audio album with an artistic musical film blending four music videos of arias by Verdi, Purcell, Tchaikovsky, and Wagner with fragmented interviews of Netrebko. Shot primarily at Teatro alla Scala in Milan during and after the album recordings, the film delves into Netrebko's performance practices of embodying heroines. Weaving in an interview where the singer provides rare insights about herself and the album's music, the film captures the transfer of the four arias to the screen, each with a unique cinematic aesthetic. Aida, Lisa, Dido, and Isolde are brought to life through a series of visual experiments driven by powerful musical motifs.
