Seong-Jin Cho
In his latest Deutsche Grammophon album, Seong-Jin Cho enthusiastically explores Handel's often-neglected Baroque piano suites. The 28-year-old South Korean pianist discovered these works only after years of studying music from later periods and was captivated by their melodic inventiveness and wealth of ideas. For Cho, Handel's music springs directly from the heart and is characterized by its accessibility. In his interpretation on the modern piano, he uses the pedal sparingly and experiments with different timbres to nuance Handel's contrapuntal lines. In addition to the Handel suites, Cho also dedicates himself to Brahms's virtuosic 'Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel,' which he considers an outstanding composition. The album, titled 'The Handel Project' and released on February 3, 2023, is rounded off by two enchanting individual pieces: the Sarabande in B-flat major and the Minuet in G minor, arranged by Wilhelm Kempff.
