Filmed at the Philharmonie im Gasteig in 1992, Andreas Fröhlich performs music that brings together architectural scale and inward reflection. Busoni’s piano transcription of Bach’s Chaconne transforms the famous violin movement into a vast, symphonic canvas, before Fröhlich turns to three of Brahms’s early Ballades from Op. 10, works shaped by narrative impulse and concentrated lyricism. Heard here early in his career, the German pianist appears in repertoire that reflects a long-standing engagement with the great works of the Austro-German tradition.
