Nadine Sierra stars in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor

Teatro San Carlo, Naples

Production Date: 29/01/2022
146 Min

The role of Lucia di Lammermoor, who finally loses her mind in the conflict between two hostile families, is a pinnacle of the bel canto repertoire, famous for the extended "mad scene" in Act III. It's a role that American soprano Nadine Sierra has introduced into her repertoire to great critical and public acclaim. Before causing a sensation as Lucia at the Bavarian State Opera and the Met in 2022, she interpreted the role at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, where Donizetti's opera had its premiere in 1835. In the period costumes of this production by film director Gianni Amelio, the soprano showcases her brilliant coloratura, pin-point top notes, and a voice of beguiling warmth – all complemented by acting of compelling intensity.
