He made a sensational debut in Vienna in 1923, performing Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto with the Concertgebouw Orchestra under Pierre Monteux. As a chamber musician, Gimpel toured with legendary violinists, including Bronisław Huberman, Erika Morini, and Nathan Milstein, as well as with his brothers, Bronislav and Karol Gimpel.
