Matty Malneck (1903–1981) was a prominent American jazz violinist, songwriter, arranger, bandleader, and violist, whose contributions have left a lasting mark on jazz and popular music. Born on December 9, 1903, in Newark, New Jersey, Malneck began his professional violin performances at an early age. He notably played with Paul Whiteman’s Orchestra for twelve years, leaving around 1935 to form his own band. His band performed on the West Coast, recorded music, and appeared in films supporting major entertainers including Jimmy Durante, Jack Benny, Bob Hope, and Bing Crosby.

These include "Goody Goody", co-written with Johnny Mercer, which became a major hit for the Benny Goodman Orchestra and remains a jazz standard. "I’ll Never Be the Same", written with Frank Signorelli and Gus Kahn, was famously recorded by Billie Holiday in 1937. "I’m Through with Love", composed with Fud Livingston and Gus Kahn in 1931, was recently revived by Diana Krall. "Stairway to the Stars", originally “Park Avenue Fantasy” (with Frank Signorelli), gained lyrics by Mitchell Parish in 1935 and became a hit for Glenn Miller in 1939. Other collaborations include “Eeny Meeny Miney Mo,” “If You Were Mine,” “Pardon My Southern Accent” (all with Johnny Mercer), and “I Go for That” and “Hawaii Sang Me to Sleep” with Frank Loesser, the latter featured in the Hollywood musical Hawaiian Nights (1939).
