With his second ECM album, 'Absinthe', guitarist Dominic Miller has created a work imbued with a unique atmosphere. His fascination with Impressionist art served as inspiration for musically translating impressions of life in the South of France. This time, his compositions unfold with particular richness in a quintet setting. Miller alternates between nylon-string and steel-string guitar, while Santiago Arias adds harmonic and melodic accents with the bandoneon. Manu Katché delivers an impressive performance on drums, while Mike Lindup lends a special atmosphere, particularly to the title track, with haunting keyboard sounds. Nicholas Fiszman provides the musical balance on bass. The music press has highlighted Miller's guitar playing: JazzTimes praised his expressive style, and Stereophile emphasized his ability to convey emotions through the guitar.
