At the Menuhin Festival
At the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad in the summer of 2011, pianist Hélène Grimaud and cellist Sol Gabetta met. The event represented an important milestone for both artists, even though their personalities contrasted sharply. The philosophically inclined French pianist seemed at first glance not to harmonize with the passionate Argentinian. Nevertheless, an extraordinary chemistry developed between Grimaud and Gabetta, captivating critics and audiences alike. In their interpretations of works by Schumann, Brahms, Debussy, and Shostakovich, an artistic symbiosis of rare quality was revealed, characterized by remarkable energy.
