Grigory Sokolov's 'The Salzburg Concert' is a stunning live recording of his performance at the 2008 Salzburg Festival. He interprets Mozart sonatas as well as Chopin's 24 Preludes, Op. 28.

Known for his numerous encores, he offers six pieces this time, ranging from Rameau to Scriabin. After nearly two decades, the maestro agreed to release a new album and is now exclusively signed to Deutsche Grammophon. The Russian pianist, born in 1950 in what was then Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), enjoys worldwide acclaim for his musical range, subtle tonal palette, and profound interpretations. Considered one of the world's most enigmatic and visionary artists, he is celebrated by enthusiastic audiences in packed concert halls. Critics haile him as a cult figure and the most important pianist of our time. His piano playing is perceived as intergalactic and a universe unto itself.
