Album insights

In 2018, Andris Nelsons was announced as the new Gewandhauskapellmeister. The successful collaboration between Nelsons and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig is evident in their recordings of Bruckner's symphonies for Deutsche Grammophon. The series begins with the Third Symphony, alongside Wagner's Tannhäuser Overture. Nelsons reflects on Bruckner's music as a reflection of universal existential questions and inner strength. This cycle, merging Bruckner with Wagner's works, pays tribute to Leipzig, where both composers had significant connections. The Gewandhausorchester, soon celebrating its 275th anniversary, played a key role in the premieres of Bruckner's Seventh Symphony and had renowned interpretations of Wagner's music. Andris Nelsons, a double Grammy winner, is exclusively signed with Deutsche Grammophon.
