Anna Netrebko's Interpretation
The audience at the Salzburg Festival was thrilled by Anna Netrebko's interpretation of 'Manon Lescaut'. Her performance was described in the international press as compelling and captivating. Netrebko fully embodied the role, and although her Italian was somewhat idiosyncratic, she impressed with her renowned vocal control and magnificent tone. Alongside her, her husband, Yusif Eyvazov, shone as Des Grieux, distinguished by his clear, focused Italian tenor. The couple, who met in 2014 during Netrebko's first stage performance of this role in Rome and married in December of that year, radiated an authentic warmth and affection that made their portrayal of the passionate love affair believable. Also particularly noteworthy was the performance of conductor Marco Armiliato, who conducted the entire opera from memory, which heightened the dramatic impact of the performance.
