Album insights
The Bayreuth Festival's 2023 production of Parsifal, praised by The New York Times for its excellent singing and muscular conducting, is set to be released in both audio and audiovisual formats. This rendition features conductor Pablo Heras-Casado and singers Andreas Schager, Elīna Garanča, Georg Zeppenfeld, and Derek Welton. Wagner originally composed Parsifal specifically for the Bayreuth Festival Theatre, restricting it from being performed elsewhere. Director Jay Scheib's interpretation of the opera honors Wagner's wish, drawing inspiration from Wagner's letter to King Ludwig II, where he described the piece as a "farewell to the world," delving into themes of hope amidst despair. The 4-CD set includes two booklets—the first containing details about the work, the 2023 Bayreuth production, and production photos, and the second consisting of the complete German libretto with an English translation. The Blu-ray video features three audio formats, including Dolby Atmos, alongside a booklet showcasing photos and insights about the opera and this specific production. Additionally, the production is accessible on our 4K Ultra HD video streaming service, STAGE+.
