Rudolf Buchbinder
As part of the Beethoven anniversary year, Rudolf Buchbinder released the Diabelli Project, which, in addition to Beethoven's famous Diabelli Variations, also presents works by contemporary composers such as Max Richter and Lera Auerbach. The internationally acclaimed pianist and Beethoven expert Buchbinder described the Diabelli Variations as an exceptionally demanding task, both mentally and physically, which he likened to climbing a mighty mountain. Deutsche Grammophon presented the edition in March 2020. In the same month, eleven new commissioned works were premiered at the Vienna Musikverein, alongside Beethoven's Variations and selected original variations from Diabelli's collection. Buchbinder then embarked on an international concert tour with the Variations.
