The Final Tour—The Emerson Quartet plays Mendelssohn, Brahms & Dvořák
Performance date: 15/03/2023
At the start of their Farewell Tour, the Emerson Quartet comes to Prague's Rudolfinum to perform three great works from the quartet repertoire. The 20-year-old Mendelssohn's Quartet Op. 12 is followed by Brahms's Third Quartet, while the programme concludes with Dvořák's final masterpiece in the genre, completed shortly after his return to Bohemia from America and featuring one of his most beautiful slow movements. The Farewell Tour marks the final chapter for one of the most important quartets of the last half century, which has seen the group win multiple awards – including an unprecedented nine Grammys – and commission and premiere many important new works.
