From the Festpielhaus in Baden-Baden 2012 comes a production of L'elisir d'amore with a twist. Transported to the film set of a Wild West film in Rolando Villazón's staging – his second project as opera director – it was a hit of the Whitsun Festival, putting a multilayered new spin on Donizetti's charming comedy. Villazón himself also leads the cast playing the lovelorn Nemorino, opposite Miah Persson's Adina. Italian bass Ildebrando D’Arcangelo relishes the double role of film director and actor playing Dulcamara. Pablo Heras-Casado and his Balthasar-Neumann-Orchestra provide sparkling support to the drama.
