Payare conducts Liszt, Ravel & Shostakovich – with Víkingur Ólafsson

Rafael Payare conducts the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal in a concert featuring Ravel's scintillating Piano Concerto in G between two rousing orchestral favourites. Víkingur Ólafsson features as the soloist in the concerto, a work perfectly suited to the clarity and musical intelligence that distinguish his playing. To complete the programme, Payare, a graduate of Venezuela's El Sistema and the orchestra's Music Director since 2022, brings passion and insight to Shostakovich's powerful Symphony No. 10 – its ferocious second movement is usually interpreted as being portrait of Stalin – and to Liszt's thrilling Les Préludes.
