Expedition Concert with Joana Mallwitz: Le Sacre du printemps

In the first of her "Expedition Concerts" – a new format introduced in her first season in charge of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin – Joana Mallwitz presents a detailed illustrated introduction to Stravinsky's Le Sacre du printemps before conducting a complete performance of the work. With the help of musical examples at the piano and from the orchestra, she explores what it is that makes this score – a riot-inducing revelation when first unveiled in Paris in 1913 – one of the most important works of musical modernism and a piece that still retains its power to shock 110 years on. The full performance of the work follows: an opportunity to hear this iconic score interpretated by one of the most exciting conductors of her generation.
