When the pianists Roland Batik and Paul Gulda played together, all bets were off. Batik is a pupil and disciple of the Viennese piano's ultimate maverick genius, Friedrich Gulda – as comfortable in Mozart as with his own jazz trio. Paul Gulda is Friedrich's son, heir to a tradition of inventive, boundary pushing piano playing. Together, they struck sparks off each other, and their 1980s duo partnership lit up the concert scene. Expect the unexpected in this live spectacular from the 1983 Munich Klaviersommer, in which masterpieces by Brahms and Mozart are framed by freewheeling jazz-inspired fantasies.
