Seong-Jin Cho
Korean piano virtuoso Seong-Jin Cho is commemorating Maurice Ravel's 150th birthday in 2025 with an ambitious recording project. Fascinated by Ravel since childhood and deeply immersed in his work during his studies at the Paris Conservatoire, Cho is recording all of the French master's solo piano works as well as both piano concertos. His profound connection to French piano literature is reflected in his meticulous engagement with Ravel's complex compositions. "Ravel knew exactly what he wanted, so I try to follow his specific instructions," explains Cho, who particularly emphasizes the orchestral sound and the painstaking attention to detail in Ravel's music. The first album, "Ravel: The Complete Solo Piano Works," was released on January 17, 2025. The second album, featuring the Piano Concertos in G Major and for the Left Hand, recorded with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Andris Nelsons, will be released on February 21.
