Album insights

Emerging from the long-standing collaboration between the Polish pianist Krystian Zimerman and conductor Sir Simon Rattle is a coveted album project. The live recordings for "Lutoslawski: Piano Concerto & Symphony No.2" were captured in September 2013 during a series of concerts at the Berlin Philharmonie. Zimerman's latest release follows the success of his recording of Brahms' Piano Concerto back in 2006, which received the German Record Critics Award. Paying tribute to Witold Lutoslawski, the pianist delves into a highly virtuosic repertoire reminiscent of Bartók and Prokoviev with its intricate melodies: Lutoslawski's Piano Concerto. This piece, completed in 1988, holds a personal dedication from Zimerman himself. Demonstrating his exceptional skill as a pianist, Zimerman captivates audiences with his exquisite interpretation, rendering the composition radiant and vibrant. Included in this recording is Lutoslawski's Symphony No.2, inspired by John Cage's unique compositional technique, performed by the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle.
