Silver Age
With his latest album, “Silver Age,” released on November 6, 2020, Daniil Trifonov, together with Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra, commemorates an era in which Russian composers, poets, and artists were among the most innovative of their time.[5] The works of Scriabin, Prokofiev, and Stravinsky reflect the artistic boldness and creative brilliance of those eventful years when the Silver Age of Russian art gave rise to new forms of expression.[1][5] Trifonov interprets, among other works, Scriabin’s Piano Concerto in F-sharp minor, Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 2 and solo pieces, and Stravinsky’s “Petrushka” and excerpts from “L’Oiseau de feu”.[1][3] This selection highlights the different approaches of the three composers: Scriabin strove for an all-encompassing, mystical fusion of aesthetic experiences, Stravinsky united the arts through his revolutionary ballets, while Prokofiev viewed cinema as a modern synthesis of the senses.[5] The album captures the creative energy and courage of a brief but intense cultural flourishing that continues to resonate today.
