Album insights
Jóhann Jóhannsson, the twice Oscar-nominated and multi-award-winning Icelandic composer renowned for his film scores in "Arrival," "Sicario," and "The Theory of Everything," blended classical and electronic elements in a unique and innovative way. His compositions, both original and profound, gained worldwide acclaim, establishing him as one of the most celebrated film composers in recent times. His music has a transcendent quality, described as if originating from a distant planet reflecting our own, adding a sense of mystery and magic in his absence. One of his monumental orchestral works, "A Prayer to the Dynamo," evokes a lost symphony, inspired by his keen interest in technology and recordings of electric facilities, deeply intertwined with orchestral sounds from Iceland's Elliðaár power plant. The Deutsche Grammophon now presents the world premiere recording of this remarkable orchestral piece, performed by the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Daníel Bjarnason. The album also features two suites from Jóhannsson's scores for "Sicario" and "The Theory of Everything."
